Interrogating the role of Northern international development organisations in combatting global injustices

December 2022

GADN Members’ Meeting

For decades, actors across the Global South have been central in interrogating colonialism and its ongoing legacies. And more recently, some Northern international development organisations - those who benefit from that colonial legacy - have also begun to reflect on what role, if any, they should play as part of combatting global injustices; injustices that are intimately tied to this colonial legacy.

Against this backdrop, GADN has written a discussion paper on the role of Northern organisations in global feminist advocacy that seeks to provoke thoughtful and self-critical debate, particularly amongst international development organisations whose primary centres of power are in the Global North; from women’s rights organisations to INGOs.

In the meeting, GADN and two contributors to the paper, Priyanthi Fernando and Dinah Musindarwezo, shared main reflections.

Speakers:

  • Priyanthi Fernando - International Women's Rights Action Watch Asia Pacific (IWRAW-AP)

  • Dinah Musindarwezo - Womankind Worldwide
