Exploring Feminist Foreign and Development Policy: Navigating Challenges and Embracing Opportunities
October 2023
GADN Members’ Meeting
Feminist Foreign Policy (FFP) is gaining increasing attention worldwide, including in the UK, with some feminist civil society actors advocating for its adoption and governments in the Global North and South embracing their own FFP or Feminist Development Policy (FDP). While an FFP/FDP presents a promising opportunity for introducing a feminist framing to foreign policy and international development work, it also comes with its challenges.
This GADN Members’ Meeting provided space to take a step back, reflect and examine the challenges and opportunities that come with calls for an FFP/FDP by hearing from a range of different speakers and exchanging with other GADN members during dedicated breakout groups.
Speakers:
Jessica Woodroffe: Director, Gender and Development Network (GADN)
Sheena Anderson: Programme Manager, Centre for Feminist Foreign Policy (CFFP)
Ana Velasco: Co-Founder, Internacional Feminista
Dr Toni Haastrup: Professor and Chair in Global Politics at the University of Manchester and Founding Member of the African Feminist Collective on Feminist Informed Policies (see their Statement of Intent on Feminist Informed Policies Abroad and at Home here)
