Supporting Syria and the Region 2016 Conference

As the UK co-hosts the Supporting Syria and the Region Conference 2016, GADN is calling on the Government to ensure that the rights and needs of women and girls are prioritised in line Women, Peace and Security commitments and international humanitarian law.

The Conference, which begins on 4th February in London, aims “to raise significant new funding to meet the immediate and longer-term needs of those affected” by the Syrian crisis, and is co-hosted by the UK along with Germany, Kuwait, Norway, and the United Nations.

GADN members are concerned that the Conference fails to highlight the needs and experiences of Syrian women and that their voices remain largely unheard. The conflict has had a devastating impact on women and girls and our members continue to work with and support them.

The GADN Humanitarian Working Group has co-authored a position paper with Gender Action for Peace and Security (GAPS) setting out ten recommendations to the UK Government.
