Submission to the International Development Committee on the Philosophy and Culture of Aid: Racism in the Aid Sector
April 2021
In March, the International Development Committee launched its first sub-inquiry under the umbrella of ‘philosophy and culture of aid’, exploring racism in the aid sector.
GADN made a submission, examining the following:
The structure of the aid sector as well as the historical processes that have led countries and organisations from the Global North to dominate the international aid sector
The practical implications of the concentration of funding and resources in the Global North
The issue of racism in the aid sector, looking in particular at the ways in which it manifests.
The paper explores some of the ways in which to address these challenges, including recommendations for the UK Government.
